Critical and Intensive Care
Veterinary critical and intensive care is an important service provided by VRCNH. If a pet becomes injured or suddenly develop an acute, life threatening disease he or she will need prompt care. In addition to needing initial emergency treatment, many days may be needed for the disease process to run its course before recovery occurs. During this time, close monitoring and life support measures in the intensive care unit (ICU) may be needed.
VRCNH is associated with the 24/7 Capital Area Veterinary Emergency Service. This means your pet receives constant attention by both veterinarians and staff trained in critical and intensive care. In many cases, the first 24 to 72 hours are critical to a successful outcome for your pet. It may be as simple as monitoring your pet's vital functions. It may require IV fluids, electrolyte monitoring, ECG monitoring, frequent wound dressing changes.
