LIZZY'S STORY

Lizzie is a 2 yr old yellow Labrador that was treated for rat poison ingestion toxicity. We are happy to say that Lizzie made a full recovery from a very life threatening condition.

She ingested the anticoagulant form of rat poison which caused massive internal hemorrhage into her chest cavity. Lizzie became very weak and debilitated. She received three blood transfusions and multiple injections of Vitamin K1 which is one of the treatments needed to stop the internal hemorrhage.

After four days of intensive treatment, Lizzie was on the road to a full recovery and was discharged to continue recuperating at home. Lizzie is a sweet dog with a strong will to survive.

Appointments

Patients are normally referred to the Veterinary Referral Center of NH by their regular, primary care veterinarian. Typically your regular veterinarian will send VRCNH a referral form. The form will describe your pet’s problem and identify the appropriate specialty department to see your pet.

If you are a new client to the Veterinary Referral Center of Portland we ask that you bring the form, along with any x-rays or records that you may have partaining to your pets medical issue.

To schedule your appointment for your initial visit, call

VRCNH is an extension of your veterinarian's practice, with the same caring, compassionate approach you and your pet are accustomed to. We work with your regular veterinarian to ensure that your pet can always get the medical attention he or she needs.
